Method
How to read this site
The site is a static dossier. The voice is scholarly on purpose. The people under study are real, and the register stays respectful. Analyzing a claim is not the same as endorsing it, and it is not the same as mocking it.
Grades
E1 is replicated experimental or similarly strong empirical work. E2 is a real study that cannot carry a population. Convention samples, internet volunteers, case series, and interviews of five people are E2, and the limit stays visible. E3 is a theory a researcher could test. E4 is interpretive scholarship. E5 is community report and community doctrine: the right evidence for "what it is like" and the wrong evidence for "what caused it."
A claim is not written above its grade. Where two grades apply, both are printed. The 2008 disorder proposal is the model of the mistake this rule prevents: a sample description was asked to become a disease, and a critic caught it in the same journal.
Samples
Every percentage on the site belongs to a named sample. Fandom research over-samples people who attend conventions and people who will talk to a known research team. Sexual self-report in that setting is not comparable, without further work, to a general-population sex survey. Grey (2019/2020) showed the problem on one recruitment text. The site applies the caution even where a famous number was tempting.
Layers
Experience, community theory, scholarship, and public talk are different objects. The litter-box story is public talk about a policy that fact-checkers did not find. It is filed as public talk.
What the build verified
Anchor papers were checked against journal pages, DOI records, or the research project's own pages in November 2026. Classics (the rubber-hand illusion, Durkheim, the Qur'an citations) are standard references. Where a page number or a date was not re-opened, the text says so. Leads that were not opened are listed on the sources page and are not used as evidence.
If a sentence here is wrong, the correction is a source, not a louder theory. The gaps are part of the argument.
Theming
Light and dark colors live in two blocks at the top of `css/site.css`: `:root` and `[data-theme="dark"]`. Components use only those tokens. The toggle stores a preference in localStorage. If the preference is empty, the site follows the system. There is no account and no tracker.
Hard limits
The site does not fabricate studies, quotes, statistics, or DOIs. It does not call a non-distressed identity a disorder. It does not deny distress that a study or a patient actually reports. It does not treat a fursona as a species identity, a species identity as a psychosis, or either as a paraphilia. It does not repeat the litter-box hoax as if it had happened. It does not sexualize minors. It does not retell restricted Indigenous religious narratives. It does not pick a single cause.
